Students Making a Difference (SMAD)
is a six-week violence prevention program offered through SAY San Diego'sExtended
Day programs. The goals of SMAD are to open up communication about violence at
school and in local neighborhoods, teach non-violent conflict resolution skills
and promote anti-violence advocacy.
Eligibility: 4th - 6th graders enrolled at select SAY Extended Day
programs.
Geographic Area: SMAD is offered in various locations throughout the City
of San Diego, with special emphasis on the neighborhoods of Mid-City,
Southeast/Downtown San Diego, Clairemont, and the beach areas. The program also hosts a monthly parent
meeting that rotates locations on topics pertaining to child development. To
